jrkang2003@... i, too, was sorely disappointed when i got the US version (YA! Entertainment) and found that a lot of the songs were changed :( they're still in the soundtrack, just mixed up and all. i wonder if it's the same with the Korean release? if somebody can tell me that it's the same as the original episodes aired on TV i'd buy the Korean version at the drop of a hat.
Really, to be fair, the drama is wonderful. One of the very best Korean dramas i've seen. I'm rating it 5/5 stars. (despite the disappointment i feel towards the mixed up soundtrack and some subtitle issues) That's why i prefer fansubs sometimes. The grammar may be a little off at times but they're faithful to the translations. (YA! Entertainment did a GREAT job with Goong, though) But i don't want to go on and on about my being upset over these things. Boys Over Flowers is a must see. The story is seamless. Never a dull moment. I was very impressed with the way this was made. (i'm a fan of Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden) Korea took this story and made it their own. And it's been a while since i last found myself hooked to drama characters - couldn't help loving the boys of F4 and JanDi. JunPyo is so cute with his messed up proverbs! The actors enjoy immense popularity at home and abroad, thanks to Kkotboda Namja. And rightly so, they're a very good-looking and talented bunch.
Overall, highly recommended. Something everyone of every age can enjoy for many many years.
My Girl (SBS TV Series)(US Version)3 people found this review helpful
October 29, 2006 chongmal GREAT!!!
My Girl has to be my most favorite K-series. It has a good story and well-developed characters. The actors did excellent jobs in their portrayal. Lee Da Hae was perfect as Ju Yoo Rin. My jaw dropped the first time I saw her in My Girl -- the role is a far cry from her previous ones. She's very versatile. The girl will be one of Korea's great actresses. Lee Dong Wook holds promise, too. Not just because he's very good looking, the guy can act, period. The support cast also did a fantastic job.
Hilarious, heart-wrenching, sweet & tender. That's how I would describe the love story of Yoo Rin & Gong Chan. LDH & LDW have chemistry. They're very believable as a couple.
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this US version of My Girl 'coz I knew the subtitles would by far be better grammatically.. and yes, it is. But as far as the translation goes, I think i prefer the one done in Asia. I mean, it has more Korean-feel to it. I was also a bit disappointed that Yoo Rin's "If You Want.." karaoke stint wasn't translated here. If someone sees it for the first time they will miss what it's all about--- as Gong Chan likes to call it Ju Yoo Rin's bluff song. "If you want the star/the moon, I'll pluck it for you.." And I think it would have been better if they didn't discount some minute details... like when Yoo Rin calls Gong Chan "orabonim", his aunt "ajumoni", Il Do "ajosshi", etc.. she sounded a little impolite in the US version ^___^ What I'm getting at? It would have been better if they stayed faithful in their translation of the series. Sidenotes to explain Korean tradition, manners, quirks, culture would do great.
I'm just thrilled, though, that i finally have an original set of DVD that works in my player... damn this region codes. To all of you who are in doubt whether to get a copy or not: Go ahead. Knock yourselves out! My Girl is a keeper!
