Leung Ka Yan is Chao Bu Fu, a member of an elite guard loyal to the Emperor. However, the government is currently in the possession of power-hungry eunuchs who have the Emperor under their control. Evil eunuch Wang Zhen (Lau Wing) orders Chao Bu Fu to hunt down and kill three loyalists who oppose him, but Bu Fu decides to rebel. Ultimately, Bu Fu's own father (Goo Fung) must hunt down his own son, who confronts whole armies while trying to escape the eunuch's grasp. But despite winning some battles, Bu Fu can't fully escape Wang Zhen's influence, and his loved ones pay the price. With nothing left, Bu Fu vows to kill Wang Zhen, even if it means his own death! Blood-soaked action sequences, brilliant outdoor vistas, and Leung Ka Yan's charismatic performance raise Secret Service of the Imperial Court above its fairly common storyline. Liang Jia-jen delivers an awesom display of screen presence and martial art prowess in Secret Service of Te Imperial Court where he plays secret service agent Chao Pu-fun who must rise up above the odds to protect the innocent against a power mad Eunuch (Liu Yung). It's balls to the walls action. Liu is best remembered for his first two roles, co-starring with Bruce Lee in The Big Boss and Fists of Fury.

The plot is good and there are strong performances from the leading actors particularly Ku Feng but the action is too fast. The director has speeded up the film until the fighting becomes comical like a cartoon.The vcd that I have is censored.In the final fight scene, I don't know what happened to Liu Yung,the power-mad eunuch.One minute he has the upper hand over the hero and the next, he is lying dead. This is film censorship at its worst. I hope the dvd is not censored. |
