1936年に軍縮条約の期限が切れ、列強国は一斉に新しい戦艦の建造に着手する。日本は量より質で対抗すべく、今までにない口径46インチの巨砲を搭載した、かつて無い巨大な戦艦を建造する。大和型戦艦の誕生である。その姿は列強国が追求した大艦巨砲主義思想の頂点の極みであり、日本海軍の主力戦艦として存在したが、すでに海戦の主力は空母に移っていた。そして1945年4月6日、大和特攻・菊水作戦を受けて沖縄に向かって進撃。しかし翌7日、数百機にのぼる米軍攻撃機の猛襲を受けて沈没する。日本の歴史に名を刻んだ悲劇の巨艦・大和の壮絶な最期を描いた幻の超大作が、DVDで完全復活！当時画期的だった実物大の船体のオープンセットと精巧なミニチュアワークを巧みに合体させた映像のマジックが楽しめる。
