Worth the money
|
I think it is good that it has the regular Chinese version and the English version. It is like getting two movies for the price of one. Plus, the picture quality is very good. Definitely worth the money. |

very silly
| Vicky Zhao stands out most. When she entered the stadium looking like an alien, she was quite funny. She looks pretty even when she hid behind a disfigured face and/or a bald head but the film is not all that funny. A bit disappointing if you want a bit of laugh. |

Humor: different tastes
| You have to agree that there is a diversity of humor out there & you either enjoy/understand Stephen Chow gags or you don't. Even though I don't understand the more language involved puns that Stephen is infamous for, I appreciate the atmosphere expressed & of course slapstick is universal in most cases. I enjoy anything that pays homage (even humorous) to Kung-fu or Asian pugilism in general. Therefore, Stephen Chow's style has been high up on my list. This edition also includes a choice of US release or "original" Chinese release versions (which also shows a difference in humor evidenced by some scenes cut). |

Nonsense
| Marks for something different, but the who movie is really rather silly. Whilst I like comedy, I do find this movie to be a waste of time. Watch it once, because that is enough. |

An OK movie
| I have not seen any Stephen Chow movies so am new to this kind of comedy. Therefore, all I can say is that it takes a little getting use to and not sure if this would appeal to all viewers (some people may think the comedy is rather crude actually). Being a comedy, it does a fairly good job and some segments are extremely funny (classics actually and I dont want to spoil it here because there arent many). Apart from that, much of the other comedy sections are, well ok. Storyline wise, its also ok, the acting is also pretty good and the music suits the film perfectly (trust me, the music at the start sets the tone magnificently for this movie). There are also quite a few special effects in the film I think HK had a kind of obsession with using special effects in movies at that time but it worked out ok and the movie would not have been the same without it. Is it a great movie? Personally, I have to disagree but its not bad and most importantly, different with enough laughs that should please most viewers so give it a try and youll either love it or loath it or just think its ok. |

Two Versions
Two Versions
| I agree the original Chinese version has some funny parts that are not in the U.S. version. It is so sad that some people dislike watching movies that are not in English and have subtitles. They're missing out on some great movies. This gives the U.S. room to abuse great movies like this one with sometimes stupid stereotypic English dubbed dialog. Sometimes the original Chinese and other non-American films get no rep at all and a U.S. version of that film with top-notch American actors is only seen. So sad. I can't believe this movie was released in 2001 and appeared in the U.S. in 2004. I'm not 100% sure but the the U.S. deleted version was probably shown in theaters. Non-American movies are also often limited to New York and L.A. American movies are watched often and very popular in other countries. Attitudes really need to change in the U.S. |

The United States Censorship Committee Does it Aga
| I'm not saying that the censoring people are bad... but censoring in the U.S. has gotten way out of hand. It started out light, censoring swear words here and there, but now even censoring guns and blood (One Piece). I could not believe it when I saw the American version of Shaolin Soccer... Some of my favourite parts were completely taken out or edited. I do NOT recommend this version of Shaolin Soccer... I recommend the original Chinese version (It has English subtitles which are actually VERY good and VERY accurate). |

I had actually gone off Stephen Chow because they became all the same and not even funny but this film, he redeemed himself in my eyes This film is great and it is really funny. One of his best films |
