The title of this film is NU SHE ZHANG ("Female Commune Director"). The "Shenghuo Gushipian" which precedes the title is descriptive, that it is a fiction film about life. The story concerns a young woman whose husband embezzles funds from their agricultural commune. Despite her love for him and strong pressures from his family, she testifies against him in court. After he goes to prison she is named commune director. When he returns, claiming to be rehabilitated, can she and the commune members trust him again? And will the others trust her if she does? Very political, but an interesting view of China at the time of the ill-fated Great Leap Forward. Zhang Yun stands out in the title role.
