September 11, 2005 Variety?Is Variety dead?
Does all our music have to sound the same but not ground breaking in anyway?
Well, Dir en Grey certianlly seemed to think so when they recorded this alltogether comptent but highly predictable album. Piror to my ourchase of this album I had heard "Saku" and I didnt mind it tbh, as it seemed like it set a pace for the album. However, the aforementioned pace beacame all to familliar after the first 3 tracks when you realise that this alum is just an excuse to hear Kyo growl badly over tracks. Dont get me wrong, I love heavy vocal's BUT Kyo's voice sounds better singign/screaming from time to time. This album just left me a bit disatisfied.Did you find this review helpful? August 19, 2005 EleganceWith Nocturnal Opera Mana sama has taken on board all of the critisims thrown at his project bands first album and acted on them with devasting results. This album is very different from that of "Dix Infernal", unlike the aforementioned debut this shows more awareness and control over the genre that Mana delivers so well. After hearing the opening Song (Nocturnal Romance) its hard to honestly not like this album. It is everything that DI was and then some.
Juka's voice has now come full circle and his vocal talents are on full display throughout this album. From the wonderful display of skill in "Monophobia" to the equally spell bounding "Vestige" Juka delivers on all accounts.
Unlike the previous album samples are less lifted and actual musicans have been roped in to help Mana create this master peice. This album is also a standout beacuse it sees MdM's soubnd evoling from an ultra dark and progressive band into a more complete Japanese Orchestral Rock/Metal group.
Overall this is a magnificent album that is well worth obtaningDid you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

August 19, 2005 Awsome debutAs soon as the harpsichord of La dix Croix plays this album hooks you. Each track left me gasping for more, the sound is raw but yet so clean, the brilliance of Juka's vocals flowing over carfeully thought out guitar (Mana), Bass (Kazuno) and Drum (Tohru) playing is just magnicent. The way this record conveys a death metal intensity but still manages to be soft and commforting (as are Mana's lyrics of love, death, sorrow and seclusion) Overall this album is great, prhepas the only flaw i have is that the intensity of the drumming can often give you a headache aswell as the hole album sounding a bit too alike. However this problem is only minor and is only really taken into consideration once you hear Nocturnal romance. Overall, a brilliant album Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
