YesAsia Editorial Description
With his ultraviolent tale of the battle between amoral punks and privileged middle aged women, director Shinohara Tetsuo cuts a deep swath into the absurd, while commenting adroitly on some of the issues faced by modern Japanese society.
Six youths in their early 20s make their homes in the Tokyo suburb of Chofu, where they drift aimlessly, gathering at night at an abandoned pier to sing pop standards from Japan's Showa Era (1926-1989). One day, a member named Sugioka accidentally collides with a middle-aged woman hurrying about her business. He uses the encounter to try and pick her up, but is soon rejected. Angered, he cuts her with a knife he is carrying, and walks away as she bleeds. Rather than horror, he feels a strange sense of satisfaction...
However, the victim is not merely a faceless housewife. Rather, she is one of six women all with the first name Midori. Much like the Chofu boys, the Midoris also have a penchant for singing pop tunes - a connecting bond - and they spend their time singing karaoke to stave off the stifling boredom of middle age. The remaining Midoris track Sugioka down and murder him, using a similar weapon. Again, like Sugioka, the women feel a strange sense of pleasure after committing the grisly crime. When Sugioka's pals find out what has happened, war is declared and all hell breaks loose.

A must see for all fans of devilishly black reveng
|
I'm another one who was lucky enough to catch this gem at the London Film Festival. I was a bit sceptical at first, as I am normally not into "revenge" themed films that much, but I watched anything and everything Japanese at the time, so I went to check it out - and luckily I did! I personally haven't laughed about anything as hard for a very long time...! (You HAVE to watch it , if only to see Masanobu Ando ask for an A-Bomb in the local ironmongers ...). The producers have done a good job, too, by picking such a vast range of well-known Japanese actors, as well as combining the teen pin-ups with faces a "middle-aged" audience can relate to - and the guys sure ain't bad-looking. However, I can only add as well that I wish this came with English subs, aas I don't speak Japanese at all. If anyone has enough time and feels like it, a translation is always appreciated... :) As is any information regarding a possible release with English subs! All in all, go check this out, you won't regret it! |

AN EXCELLENT DARK COMEDY!!!
| I saw this recentley at the London Film Festival and didn't know much about it before I went into the cinema except that it had Matsuda Ryuhei in it who impressed me tremendously in 'Aoi Haru'. I couldn't believe how good this movie was!!. . it was very violent but at the same time extemely funny!! :0 I wish that this dvd had english subtitles as my Japanese is quite basic and i am dying to see this again. |
