Sinkokyu no Hitsuyo (The Necessity of Deep Breathing) is a brand new film by Tetsuo Shinohara, whose previous effort Tengoku no Honya Koibi (Heavens Bookstore The Light of Love) was a romantic smash hit. This time he recruited popular model Karina to star in her debut role, Azumis Narimiya Hiroki, Sky High the Movies Tanihara Shosuke, and Nagasawa Masami who starred in the film Sekai no Chushin de, Ai o Sakebu. With a cast of bright up-and-coming actors, this coming-of-age tale is set to be equally moving as Tetsuos previous work!
Five young adults arrive at a small island in the Okinawan archipelago to do some seasonal work. They are recruited to help an elderly couple, the Tairas and their old hand Yutaka Tadokoro to harvest a field of 70,000 sugarcane stalks in 35 days. The hard manual labor proves too much for these young people in the sugarcane brigade, and as they struggle to continue with the task they fight and bicker with each other. As the days pass and it seems impossible for these young people to complete the job at hand, a former neighbor of the Tairas, Misuzu, appears to lend an inspirational hand
