Directed by Gerard Pires, Sky Fighters, a.k.a. Les Chevaliers Du Ciel, is a thumpingly entertaining film about bravery, brotherhood, and really fast planes. Set in a high-flying, high-octane world where men are men, women are beautiful, and the sky is for the taking, Sky Fighters could very well be the French answer to Top Gun. True to the film's spirit, all the flight sequences are actually shot with real planes and aerial photography, without any CG tinkering. The story, based on Jean-Michel Charlier's comic book, is action-filled and popcorn fun, and the cast is nothing less than top-caliber with Benoite Magimel (La Pianiste), Clovis Cornillac (The Story of My Life), Geraldine Pailhas (5X2), Philippe Torreton (Felix et Lola), and Alice Taglioni (The Valet).
When a French Mirage 2000 goes missing from a UK airplane exhibition, French Air Force pilots Antoine "Walk'n" Marchelli (Benoit Magimel) and Sebastien "Fahrenheit" Vallois (Clovis Cornillac) are tasked to recover the plane. With Vallois and Marchelli in hot pursuit, the Mirage's renegade pilot attacks back, and Marchelli brings down the plane in a fiery blast. The incident is blamed on Marchelli after a suspicious cover-up from above, and the friends are forced to leave the force. With their names on every commercial flyer's blacklist, the two unemployed pilots have difficulties finding jobs - until they get recruited into a special mission team to fly across hostile territory to land a contract. Their mission seems simple enough, but they soon find themselves caught in a deeper network of espionage and terrorism.
