long drama but worth watching Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
A very long drama with many many exciting epistles. Don't be too fussy with details and you will enjoy it tremendously. It shows all aspects of love that Koreans are so good at. Love, whether between men and women, emporor and guards, masters and slaves, father and son are all so very well portraited but the greatest love comes from Princess Yo Yung when she was willing to sacrifice herself and her family to save someone who couldn't even give her a little of the love she hoped for. This is the first time I watched the end of the baddies and felt sorry for them. The bad emperor and his very faithful personal guard 'Ha Chi Ping' were very touching at the end when baddie emperor repented and Ha killed him to save him from his misery but promised to be there with him always before committing suicide. The worst person Chi Leo was so wicked throughout but in the end he did right. I am not sure about the last epistle. I much prefer a happier ending. You do feel you are at a loss when the series is finished though.

Better than Dae Jang Geum! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is an excellent drama and in my opinion better than Jewel of the Palace. I highly recommend this drama but do wait until the subtitles in Chinese and English version is released.

Awesome series Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is one of the best k-drama I've viewed. The plot and characters are so well-written. They portray the sins and weaknesses of human nature (what people will do to gain power). There is no question/doubt on the clarity of morally right and wrong decisions made by the characters. Jang and Giroo both had obstacles but both made such different choices which led to their conclusive ending. I love K-drama for its ability to always portray the strong love between the lead characters, their integrity and faithfulness for each other, and their fight to attain their love despite all the hardships and obstacles thrown in their way. Their love was tested again and again and yet they prevailed. It is just a beautiful story. I hope YA Entertainment will come up with Region 1 DVDs for U.S. customers and with better English subtitle. I'm sure many will love this one as much as they love "Dae Jang Guem". Kudos to the writers and actors for bringing this show to life!

GOOD STORY, BAD CASTING Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
The storyline is good but I am disappointed with Jo Hyun Jae. The character he portrayed is so central to the drama but his acting ability is so limited that he can't bring the character to life. He had the same deadpan expression almost throughout the show. It was an agony watching him trying to convey the emotions required by the scenes. Also, Jo Hyun Jae and Lee Bo Young have no chemistry. I don't feel for their romance. In fact, Ryu Jin puts on a good performance as the scheming villain, especially in the last few episodes. I feel the whole drama is saved only by the wonderful and exciting script.

Beautiful~ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love this drama to death. Again props to the same people who brought us Dae Jang Geum. If you liked Dae Jang Geum you should definitely try Seo Dong Yo. The sets and costumes are beautiful. The story grips you, episodes around 33-34 has one of the most intense dramas I've seen around. Yes it's a bit slow on the get go but just charges through to the end. My only complaint is with the evil writers and their cliffhangers at the end of each episode. You can't stop watching at all!

The Ultimate Love Story!.... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I've just finished watching this series and came away emotionally touched. Don't let the translations deter you from watching this great series! Try your best to go beyond the words to see what this series has to offer. It is a story of ultimate true love between two uncommon individuals, Seo Dong and The Princess. Seo Dong was played by Jo Hyun Jae, the handsome actor with a boyish look who has matured in his acting skills and looked princely in this series. Ru Jin was great as the villian who was consumed by ambition and hatred. And Lee Bo young as the strong will and clever princess looked and acted 10 times better than in Mr. Goodbye.

The script is complicated with many twists and turns. It is rewarding to watch the cliff hangers, surprising outcomes and the well thought out and philosophical dialogues exchanged between the characters. The best and most touching scene is during the final episode when Seo Dong and the Princess competed to cook for each other. The director really did a fantastic job by going one step further to show what true love is all about. Oh, the theme song was sang by Lim Jae Wook, one of my most favorite singers. Don't miss this series!

Seo Dong Yo vol 1 and 2 Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
iv jus bought this series today, so this is why iv given such a low mark. only seen two episodes, but i like the drama all ready, and iv enjoyed other period dramas such as emperor of the sea, dae jang geum and damo.
as for the subtitles, there was a slight delay when the actors were talking and subtitles were missing, or the odd spelling mistake. [it still upsets me when mum is spelt mom, but that happens in every american english subbed drama]. as for the DVD's, im happy to say i bought both vol 1 and 2 in Sawarak,Malaysia for a bargin price of 139RM each. thats 20 pounds each [double that for USD]. both are beautiful boxsets, with 7 disks in each. so if anything, i would very very upset to of bought mine at YESASIA's price of 349RM only to find the quality of the subs for the price of the disks

Jo Hyun Jae!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Don't know whats the complaints bout the subtitles... my boxset's subtitles is great. I had seen worse! The series were simply marvelous! Cant even decide which one i Like better Dae Jang Geum or this Seo Dong Yo...
but Jo Hyun Jae... I dont even remember him much in Love Letter but here I fall head over heels in love with him... its not hard to believe that 3 beautiful women fall in love with him and willing to sacrifice everything for him!
The scene i will not forget is when he apologize too Princess Woo Young coz he cant love her and want to give her the most precious thing he have (except for his wooden ring!) but she said thats not what she want. She ask him to promise her just one thing... In his next life promise that he will be her man, or the next, or the next, or the next....
I cry buckets over love triangles and the love such as Seo Dong and Seon Hwa have!

Incoherent & random subtitles Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
If you cannot understand Korean and you need to read English subtitles DO NOT BUY this series. The subtitles vary from horrific to pathetic. The subtitles should not have made it through a spell checker or grammar checker. Entire scenes of dialog are incoherent. Words are randomly placed in sentences. Many words are misspelled and fused together. In many cases you can handle up to 70% faulty English and correct it in your head. This series exceeds the threshold for most English speakers to correct the errors on the fly and enjoy it. The subtitles in this series make watching it a dreary and frustrating exercise. Spend the time poking your self in the eye it will be less painful and probably more entertaining.
