February 12, 2009 Not bad.The criticism first.
Rain's vocals leave more to be desired, as usual. Actually, one does not desire anything at all. It is clear that Rain is no singer, he's a dancer and a performer. Even JYP acknowledges that, in a slip of tongue in a press conference. The album's songs, as per always, includes some English lyrics, however, his pronounciation is not all that clear. I believe he should cut that away completely, as it was clear that he could not succeed in the English-speaking world with his first language as Korean (remember the cancelled concerts?). Cut away the overly large dreams, and focus on the main task of capturing Asia. China would be a glitch.
I will, however, acknowledge that the saving grace was the production, which would not be surprising given the funds he would have at hand. The production of the album is amazing, equalling and in some instances, surpassing that of a mainstream American album. He also made the right decision of minimalizing his vocals, an instead choosing fast songs to sing as opposed to ballads, of which there were but a few. By letting the instrumentals do the work, he masks his ineptitude at holding a tune and staying in pitch and produces a true work of art.
Kudos to those god-like producers, they made the album worthwhile.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
