高校生のアーサー（マイケル・アンガラーノ）はマーチング・バンドでトロンボーンを吹き、地元の中華料理店でバスボーイとしてアルバイトをしている。学校で出会ったちょっと変わった女の子ライラ（オリビア・サールビー）と恋に落ちて急接近するが、なかなか自分の気持ちに正直になれない。アーサーの両親は口論の耐えない毎日を送っていたが、ついに父親が家を出ていってしまう。中華料理店でアーサーと一緒に働くアニー（ケイト・ベッキンセール）は、高校時代からつきあっていたグレン（サム・ロックウェル）と別れ、娘と２人の生活を始めようとしていた。問題行動の多かったグレンは、なんとか仕事を見つけてアニーと娘の３人で新生活をスタートしようと考えているが、ある日、誰もがもう過去には戻れない事件が起きてしまう。
