YesAsia Editorial Description

A cinematic classic and a martial arts masterpiece, directed by the biggest names in Hong Kong cinema is finally available in a version that is restored in all its glory!

The Swordsman, based on the classic novel by legendary martial arts writer Jin Yong, is now released on a digitally remastered DVD with restored image, Dolby 5.1 and DTS sound. One of the greatest martial arts stories ever told, this is a classic tale of Good versus Evil, struggle for power and how a hero remains honest in a corrupt world. Ling Wu-Chung (Sam Hui) might only be concerned with boozing and singing, but when the Sacred Scroll, a manual which promises great martial arts power and supremacy over the other clans is stolen, Ling is reluctantly drawn into the struggle for the Scroll. Secrets are revealed, loyalty is betrayed, new alliances are made, and Ling begins to realize that when power begins to corrupt, what is good and evil is not so clear anymore.

Produced by Tsui Hark and directed by various directors which includes Ann Hui, Tsui Hark, Ching Siu-Tung and legendary King Hu, The Swordsman is considered as a martial arts classic that revitalized the genre in Hong Kong. Included in this DVD are interviews with Jacky Cheung and James Wong discussing the film.

Beutiful.. Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I guess most people have seen this film or at least heard of it as the Swordsman series are quite known these days.

This version thath as been digitally remastered still has its flaws when it comes to picture quality but still its alot better than the org. version.

The film is not an action packed movie as some ppl think it is but it has its moments of figthing, very well perfomred indeed.

the strength of this film in my opinion is the story that is very nice indeed.

I recommend to get this one Swords man II and East Is Red to have all 3 in your collection

Swooshing! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Very fast-paced! Would have to watch it a few times to pick up the necessary details of the storyline. Great sets! Artistry wasn't too bad considering the age of the movie. However, the only thread linking this original to its 2 sequels is the subject of the 'Sacred Scroll' (or 'Volume') and the song 'Hero of Heroes' which is pretty catchy. Some of the original characters trickle into part 2 (with Jet Li replacing Sam Hui) but disappear altogether in part 3 . Would probably need to watch this to understand the sequels a little better. Otherwise, a fine movie on its own.

A story of Ming Dynasty Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Ahem! A good movie, that's all. A really good movie with a good plot. Though I've watched it I won't bother to review the plot as it is already reviewed up. God bless the director, King Hu. The main reason why it's great is the story of betrayal to students to the end of Sam Hui Goon Git having to fight his cruel master, who was crazy for the Sacred Volume. Whatever amount of praise is not enough, even if it is 100%. Well, whare are those people who haven't watched it waiting for? Go get this fabulous movie!

Excellent Movie But Bad DVD Quality Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This is one of the classic movies that's loved by many people. It's very disappointing to find the quality of the DVD to be worse than VCD. Majority of the time, the voice and lips of the person does not match (the lips are usually couple of seconds late). But since this is a movie that I really love, I guess I'll just have to live with the imperfection.

must seen!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is one of the best movie ever made! I really like the fact that this movie has three parts, Swordsman 2 and The east is red. I think that the actors are really great, especially the guy that played Ling Wu-Chung, he was great. I especailly liked the song heroes of heroes, it was great. Whom ever hadn't seen this movie, Must See It!!!
