Stanley Kwan produced The Accident, an atmospheric drama from director Julian Lee (Night Corridor). A train accident sets in motion an evening of personal discovery and possible tragic consequences for a number of lonely Hong Kong individuals. Stranded businessman Patrick (Andrew Lin) cannot return to Hong Kong, and instead strikes up a brief attraction with a Category III actress (Almen Wong Pui Ha). Meanwhile, his girlfriend (Gigi Lai) arrives in Hong Kong to find nobody waiting for her. Loneliness begins to consume her, and she turns to an older gentleman (Patrick Tse Yin) for a moment of solace. Finally, a gay taxi driver (Ben Ng) picks up a young Chinese hustler (Wong He), and the two share a passionate encounter in the back of his taxicab. The three stories swirl about each other, inextricably intertwined, but not quite connecting, each speaking to the loneliness at the heart of the individual. The Accident is an offbeat drama with artistic aspirations that rises above the Hong Kong Cinema norm.
