When the legendary director, Chang Cheh died on Jun. 22, 2002 at the age of 79, he left a legacy of 100 or so films that helped define the martial-arts genre. "He contributed to both the artistic value of martial-arts films and the prosperity of the Hong Kong film industry," accoridng to the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA).
His films created a new era for martial-arts films in the late 1960s. The style of fighting was innovative. He stressed the use of genuine kung fu so the fight scenes were no longer just violence. When it was shot in a beautiful way, fighting, in his films, was like dancing.
David Keung, De Lung, Chen Kuan-tai and Alexander Fu Sheng, who all worked with him, were at one time our biggest movie stars.
Helmed by Chang Cheh, The Anonymous Heroes was filmed at 1971 from Shaw Brothers studio. Starring David Keung, De Lung and Jing Li.

But perhaps they should have been known as the "Iron Rectangle" because of the invaluable contributions of action choreographer LiuChia-liang(a.k.a. Lau Kar Leung). This post - Chinese Revolution adventure of rebels battling warlords is a prime example of the quartet's remarkable skill behind and in front of the camera. Their teamwork made this a 1971 top ten hit.

Wonderful early pairing of David Chiang and Ti Lun
| This was a favorite of mine since I first saw it on the big screen in 1970 . David Chiang was cute, sexy , funny, charismatic and a great actor full of life and energy. Ti lung, handsome, strong and sassy. The two just gel together, I had a big smile as I was watching my favorite actors be so playful on screen. Ching Li was also great as Pepper. The guys were extremely handsome when they stole some army uniforms. Grab this if your'e fans of their, you'll love it ! |

A definitive collection
| I got a great deal of pleasure out of buying The Anonymous Heroes dvd, Davis Keung & De Lung used to be energetic, Jing Li was lovely. I note with satisfaction that Brightness, color & contrast of this film are even better than the productions (HK) in recent years. The sound (Mandarin audio 5.1) is correct. Everything's meticulous (disc, jacket, layout...). A precious dvd for collection ! |
