YesAsia Editorial Description
Director Chor Yuen and action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping collaborate in The Bastard, a classic Shaw Brothers film with an uncommon storyline beside the expected bouts of fighting action. Zong Hua stars as a young man with no name, who wanders in search of his true origin. Exceptionally proficient in kung-fu, the young man eschews violence unless absolutely necessary. That necessity comes to pass when he discovers a spunky beggar (regular Shaw Brothers star Lee Lai Lai) being assaulted by men with ugly intentions. The two become friends, but the young man's charity makes him a target, until the same men who attacked the beggar realize he looks like the son of their boss, Gu Chang Bo (Cheng Miu). The young man is brought to live with Gu, but before long a hidden plot is revealed involving family, sacrifice, and bloody revenge.
Director Chor Yuen's The Bastard is actually an eastern take on Alexandre Dumas' Man in the Iron Mask, with Zong Hua taking on dual roles as the noble young man and the heinous, imprisoned son of Gu Chang Bo. Featuring heartstopping action and a surprisingly emotional storyline, The Bastard is an action drama which stands apart from its fellow films in the Shaw Brothers library!

Product Information
導演:楚原
Director: Chu Yuen
The incomparable Lily Li was considered an acress with an attitude, which was perfect for her becoming a bad-girl fighter. In The Bastard, she plays a beggar girl that becomes a target for evil men plotting to make The Bastard a scapegoat for murder because he happens to like the son of a jailed dignitary's son accused of murder. The Bastard is actually a new take on an old Western classic, Alexandre Dumas' Man in the Iron Mask where epee' and foil fencing is replaced tornados of hands and feet.

Very attractive plot with solid kung fu fight. Shaw actor Zhong Hua excellent performance had added credit to this movie. His dual roles (a bad, wealthy man's son and good ,innocent bumpkin)plus his kung fu stunt definitely deserved compliment. Highly recommened. |
