Since abandoning painting 10 years ago, famous artist Edouard Frenhofer lives quietly with his wife in the countryside of southern France. When visited by a young painter and his girlfriend Marianne, Frenhofer is inspired to start again the work on what was to become his masterpiece: La Belle Noiseuse. He chooses Marianne to replace his wife as model. A stunning study of the artistic process and its obsessions. With paintings by Bernard Dufour.

This is not the original 4-hour long version of the Jacques Rivette`s film. Beware. This is the 2-hour shorter version the director came up with. I will leave the final word to IMDb, where this is what it says under Plot Outline: "Divertimento" is a shorter version of the 1991 "La Belle noiseuse". All the material different of "La Belle noiseuse" (lighting, shot, angle, editing). Definitely NOT worth the trouble, IMO. |
