The journey to the west continues in The Cave of Silken Web! When we last left the Monkey King and Tang Dynasty priest Xuanzhang, they had just escaped the clutches of the Bone Demon Sisters. But Xuanzhang isn't safe for long! Soon, he and Piggy are captured by seven spider fairies from the Cave of Silken Web, who want to consume the monk's flesh to achieve immortality. Even worse, one of the sisters is determined to take the monk's chastity by having her way with him! It's up to the Monkey King and fellow disciple Friar Sand to save the day and continue the journey to the west! The requisite colorful costumes and imaginative sets from the legendary Shaw Brothers Studios are just the beginning of the fun in The Cave of Silken Web. This third installment in Shaw Brothers' acclaimed adaptation of the classic novel Journey to the west is possibly the most exotic of all. Sex and spectacle are combined as our geroes find themselves trapped in the Cave of the Silken Web, home of the seductive Seven Spiders, who are bent on achiening immortality by eating monk's flesh. There's weird fun and wacky adventure from beginning to end, with the sets and costumes belonging as much to the psychedelic 60's as ancient China.

This is entertainment!
| The third film in the Shaw Brothers' 'Journey to the West' series presents a simpler story than its two predecessors, but is no less fun. Indeed, the memorable songs, the beautiful spider demons, the goofy special effects, and the opera-style action make "The Cave of Silken Web" a real treat. I recommend this film very highly, if you can find it. Why did the producers of this DVD go to all the trouble of restoring some of these old Shaw Brothers gems only to let them go out of print so quickly? This is a classic that should never be unavailable! |

Cave of the silken web
| One of the three Shaw classics based on the novel" Journey to the West". The 60's special effects, songs and Shaw stars Yu Quian had revived this classic-based movie. Superb. Impatiently await for the last of the three classics. |
