Product Information

導演:王羽
Director: Jimmy Wang Yu

Jimmy Wang Yu was the golden age of kung-fu film's first superstar -- even before David Chiang, Ti Lung, and Bruce Lee. And this was his first fully-realized personal kung-fu vision. He wrote, directed, and starred in this classic favorite as Lei Ming, a noble young martial arts student who doesn't know the meaning of giving up. He faces a treacherous, blood-thirsty Japanese karate expert, which leads to many memorable battles as well as several unforgettable training sequences.

編劇︰王羽
監製︰邵仁枚

Not bad but not a classic Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I know lots of poeple ( especialy pro. critics ) put this movie in classics category, it's true that at the time it was innovateur but the skill of Jimmy Wang Yu is very poor. He his slow and not very athletic. I still think that The One Armed Swordman is Jimmy best and only good martial arts film ( well Master of the flying guillotine was not bad ).

Great film ..bad soundtrack Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This version of the classic " Chinese Boxer" has been restored to its highest glory even better than the theatrical release for that I give it an A plus...unfortunately, as with the movie "Deadly Duo" the music soundtrack has been partially re-recorded with a synthesizer and produces an cheap sound that always ruins some key moments in the movie..I just don't know why Celestial couldn't keep the original music soundtrack intact. The original music was spectacular in accompanying the mood of the movie. Otherwise the movie is still worth getting.

I have yet to watch this DVD but based on my memory, this is indeed a must-see movie for all Shaw Bros fans.
Wang Yu had created a new era of the kung fu movies at that time when the film was released. No doubt, it had topped the box-office chart in the 70's.

What a pity that Singapore Shaw Bros Classics distributor Videovan has yet to release this on schedule. Since the "One-armed swordsman" triology, the release of the subsequent classics ( My dream boat, Shaolin prince, lotus lamp, swordsmates, deadly duo and many others ) are delayed and no confirmation to-date. I believe many Shaw Bros fans are long awaiting for these movies especially this "Chinese Boxer". However, I can't wait but to purchase through Yesasia to watch this collectible Shaw Bros Classics.
