ジェームズ・オバーのカルト・コミックを原作に、「アイ、ロボット」のアレックス・プロヤス監督が映画化した近未来バイオレンス・アクション。ダーク・ヒーローとしてこの世に復活する主人公のエリックを演じるのは、あのブルース・リーの息子、ブランドン・リー。ブランドンは、本作品の撮影中に不慮の事故で他界したが、復讐鬼と化した男の悲哀と情念を、厚塗りのメイクを施してもなお存分に伝えるべく見事な表現力で演じ、彼の遺作にして代表的な作品となった。共演は、「ゴーストバスターズ」「OZ/オズ」のアーニー・ハドソン、「48時間」「K-PAX～光の旅人～」のデビッド・パトリック・ケリー、「エイリアン4」「ネゴシエーター」のマイケル・ウィンコット、他。
