YesAsia Editorial Description
Sam Hui is an amnesiac assassin in The Dragon From Russia, a Hong Kong action thriller based on the popular Japanese manga Crying Freeman! Yao (Sam Hui) and May (Maggie Cheung) are childhood friends living in Russia, but Yao is mysteriously kidnapped by the 108 Dragons Cult. The cult brainwashes Yao to become an assassin, but the experience still affects his soul, as he sheds a tear every time he takes a life. When Yao chances into May again, the opportunity arises for him to regain his memory, and his past. But the 108 Dragons Cult is not so quick to let their own go so easily... Clarence Fok (Naked Killer) directs The Dragon From Russia with sensual, slow-motion panache, and action choreographer Yuen Tak delivers exciting, intricately choreographed actions sequence. Featuring a cast of impressive Hong Kong beauties, including Maggie Cheung, Carrie Ng, Nina Li, and Loletta Lee, The Dragon From Russia is pure Hong Kong Cinema fun!

Don't bother
| Attractive under the guise of being based on the Crying Freeman comics, there were definately recognizable scenes that paid homage but a far cry from what the comics & your imagination can conjure up. I wasted 90minutes of my life watching this movie, giving it benefit of the doubt, praying it would somehow redeem itself....then wondering why a better actor, (if not better looking) couldn't have been cast considering what a lady-killer the comic character was. |

NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES
| Although it clearly says "English Subtitles" on the back of the VCD box, this movie really only has Chinese subtitles. Still, "Dragon from Russia" is a film so action-packed, filled with some of the craziest (yet actually quite well-done) wire-assisted fighting I've ever seen, that it almost doesn't matter... ...Almost. |
