導演:周詩祿
Director: Chow Sze Loke

The husband-and-wife team of Ivy Ling Po and Chin Han returned to another Huangmei Opera classic after Lady General Hua Mu-Lan. Helmed by Chow Sze-loke and written by Chang Cheh, the story revolved around Ching Feng-hsiao (Ivy Ling Po), who was engaged to Li Ru-lung (Chin Han) since birth, but her greedy stepmother Hsia (Kao Pao-shu) forced Ru-lung to forfeit the marriage. When he refused, Hsia framed him for thievery and put him behind bars. To rescue her lover, Feng-hsiao dressed as a young man and went to the capital. She then used Ru-lung’s name to enter the national exam and was ranked first place. Impressed by Feng-hsiao, the Emperor decided to let her wed the Princess…

ANOTHER HUANGMEI GEM! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I have just finished viewing "Female Prince" in DVD and enjoyed it tremendously. Three cheers to Celestials for their masterly effort for transforming this old Huangmei classic into a magnificent priceless gem! The sharp crystal picture and sound are phenomenal.

The whole cast is brilliant. Ling Po has again exuded her versatile talents in dual roles: a beautiful, gracious maiden and a cute, naive and boyish scholar. Amazingly, her male portrayal bears such a striking resemblance to her role as Liang San Boh in "Love Eterne".

Ling Po's gifted unique voice has also given a magical lift to Huangmei dio songs making them so melodiously entertaining!

Li Ching excelled too as a sensitive and witty maid. She looks cute and lively and it's doubtless a thumb up for her performance.

Fang Yin also shines in this movie. She portrays fabulously as a pretty, demure princess. Last but not least, Chin Han's minor role has also earned much admiration from me.

I believe this is an excellent Huangmei opera of Shaws production and grab it while it's still available! I'm very proud to have bought 3 DVDs and 1 VCD from Yesasia recently.

A huangmei diao evergreen! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I like The Female Prince. The storyline is simple and interesting. No dull moments, good editing, not choppy, and included are many beautiful songs. Most of the dialogues are interspersed with lovely huangmei diao songs. There are serious and light-hearted moments.

To me the main draw of this movie are the songs. There are sad ones, happy ones, funny ones, angry ones, loving ones, to name a few. Just sit back, and be de-stressed and entertained. No hard thinking is needed. You sort of know what will happen next as in a fairytale story. And in a fairytale ending, so they all live happily ever after.

The main casts all acted well in their roles. I enjoy watching the movie with Ivy Ling Po in both the male and female roles. Fang Yin as the princess is a joy to watch. Li Ching as usual rarely disappoints.

The Female Prince on this re-mastered DVD is definitely a must buy for huangmei diao fans!

A delightful classic! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I simply love this amazing huangmei classic. It has everything....drama, comedy, suspense, pathos. This was only the 5th Shaw movie for Ivy Ling Po in 1964 but she acquited herself admirably and breezed through her role like an old pro. Her gestures are delightful to watch and she has the most amazing facial expressions. No wonder she is still adored today by her large fan base. Li Ching as her witty maid must be given special mention for almost stealing the show from Ivy Ling Po in the scenes that they share. Fang Ying playing the confused princess is much better here than in her debut "A Maid From Heaven". A huangmei musical is only as good as its songs and I am happy to report that they are good and catchy. Ivy Ling Po sang for herself ; Liu Yun sang for Li Ching ; Tsin Ting sang for Fang Yin.
