The Fortune Teller translates the widespread legend of the Fung Shui Master Lai Buyi to a popular TV series featuring Miu Kiu Wai, one the five stars of the then TVB. Also featuring in this series elegant actresses Chong Jing Yee and Wong Cho Si and a veteran supporting cast including Liu Wai Hung, So Hang Suen and Tam Bing Man.

Kong Ci (Chong Jing Yee) has a crush on Lai Buyi (Miu Kiu Wai) at first sight. But as she is so jealous of his fame, she traps him several times instead of expressing her feelings to him. That turns out to have stimulated Lai in advancing in the study of Fung Shui. Failing to become the disciple of the female Fung Shui Master Bu Guo Jiu (So Hang Suen), he starts to learn from another master Ling Lin Liu, without knowing the love-hate relationship between Ling and Bu. The two Fung Shui Masters arrange a contest for their disciples, Kong Ci and Lai Buyi, to compete with each other, but the two younger ones have made a huge mistake which almost costs their lives...

　　自賴布衣(苗僑偉)以風水免去一身官職後，便與胡菁菁(黃造時)成親，生活清閒安定。某日衣遇上張陽超(廖偉雄)和孔慈(莊靜而)這對亦擅長風水卦象的師兄妹，慈對衣一見鍾情，但因妒忌他的名氣，於是兩人由鄉村鬥至皇宮，各自施展絕招破解對方卦穴。

　　衣被慈連番作弄，自感未能精通堪輿之術，遂上山訪尋名師。衣先拜得女北斗不過九(蘇杏璇)為師，怎料卻遭超戲弄，終被九逐出師門。後來衣無意中遇上南泰山凌林陸(譚炳文)，並跟他鑽研風水學說。

　　原來陸與九乃一對歡喜冤家，為爭長短，兩人訂下由雙方徒弟慈和衣來個風水大鬥法。怎料慈和衣竟在鬥法期間擺了大烏龍，闖下生死大禍......
