Before becoming the toast of film festivals worldwide, Johnnie To directed crowd-pleasing commercial films, and The Fun, The Luck, & The Tycoon qualifies as one of his most beloved. This feel-good comedy stars Chow Yun Fat as Leung Po Sam a.k.a. Popo, the richest and possibly nicest man in all of Hong Kong. However, Popo's place among the elite comes with small personal sacrifices, among them the inability to choose his own wife. He's supposed to marry his spoiled cousin Cindy (Nina Li), but elects to run away in the middle of the night, taking on the guise of an ordinary, normal Joe in order to find his own bride.
On his own in Hong Kong, Popo meets Ah Yuk (Sylvia Chang), a kind and unassuming restaurant owner, and he's immediately smitten. Popo applies for a job as a busboy at her restaurant, and takes pleasure in performing menial, everyday tasks while also growing closer to the woman he loves. However, Popo can't hide forever, and soon many people come looking for Hong Kong's richest and most eligible bachelor. Can he win the girl before he's spirited back to his hilltop mansion? The slapstick, situation comedy, and all-star cast (including legendary Hong Kong band Beyond) make The Fun, The Luck, & the Tycoon fun, but it's Chow Yun Fat's genial, effortlessly charming star turn that make this film a special one. Chow even turns up in a second role, as an urbane taxi cab driver who gives Popo a ride.

於婚期前的一個月，周潤發於某「慈善獨木舟大賽」邂逅了張艾嘉，對她一見鍾情，後因錯綜複雜原被誤會為無知窮青年，在張的哥哥夏雨店中做雜工。夏雨的「明火靚湯」有連鎖店數間，可謂事業有成，且對另一個闊少鄭丹瑞追求妹妹的事已默許。可惜她又不欣賞鄭，卻看上了雜工周潤發，二人共墮愛河。令鄭丹瑞及利智心有不甘，設計破壞……。
Chow Yun Fat was a famous, clever, rich and spoiled playboy in town living in his father's luxury house. His wealthy grandmother had a rich twin sister. Both of them had their own family and kids. The twin grannies wished to match up their grand children so that their legacy would not fall into the hands of outsiders. Unfortunately, the two grandchildren were not fond of each other.
One month before his marriage with Li, Chow met Cheung Ai Ka in a "Cannoeing Charity Competition", which sponsored by a food company of Cheung' brother - Ha Yu. They love at the first sight. After several situations, Cheung had misunderstood Chow as an poor youngman who worked as a genitor in her brother's food shop……
