YesAsia Editorial Description

Director Johnny To and action choreographer Ching Siu Tung pool their talents for The Heroic Trio, a Hong Kong action fantasy that has become a cult classic! Michelle Yeoh, Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung play a trio of tough women who band together to bring justice to the city. When an ancient Ming Dynasty eunuch begins stealing babies from unsuspecting couples, Wonder Woman (Anita Mui) takes to the rooftops to find the culprit. Joining her is the mercenary Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung), a money-grubbing bounty hunter with a heart of gold, and the Invisible Girl (Michelle Yeoh), who starts out as a bad guy before switching to the side of the angels. Together, the three try to stop the evil eunuch from launching his plan to bring about a new Imperial age. Co-starring Anthony Wong and Damian Lau, The Heroic Trio achieved international cult status thanks to its delirious action, comic book cinematography and art direction, and its trio of leading ladies, who bring terrific presence and believable emotion to their larger-than-life characters. Followed by the sequel, Executioners.

The lovely Trio - Michelle, Anita, Maggie. Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
For the 80's this film was ahead of it's time. Soon after 2 of the stars became internationally famous. Great direction by director Johnnie To, but one thing that really spoiled the film were the visable wires. It was very laughable to see it so clearly even on a small scene. I remembered the reactions of the audience when I went to the film premiere. But sad to say that is the difference between a HK made film and an international production. If I were Johnnie I would digitally fix the little hang ups before they launched the DVD.

Cult Status Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This film is entertaining, grotesque, funny, revolting, and camp. It must be a Johhnie To film! The idea of such talented actresses playing super-heroines is cool. The action scenes are well done, and it will certainly keep you entertained. But, for some, the over-the-top violence may turn some people off. And the things that happen to babies, will make you turn your head away from the screen! But, if taken as a tongue-in-cheek, campy action-adventure film, its one of the better ones. The sound is only in mono, but the subs are well-done. Enjoy! And cringe at the same time...

Don't even read this Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This is a High Flyin' Wire-Fu Action movie with Michelle Yeoh! Not to mention Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung, you don't need a complete strangers opinion to know it's worth buying. Just get it, it's also known as "The Heroic Trio".

The story is fine, but if you really need a story, why are you looking at Kung fu movies? Go read a book, that's where most stories are hidden.

The Heroic Trio Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
An extremely entertaining film. Maggie Cheung Man yuk is an excellent actress who provides the perfect comic relief in the film. Michelle Yeoh demonstrates her elegance and grace as a Martial Arts actress in some very pleasing fight sequences. Anita Mui Yim Fong shows that her talent doesn't only lie in her voice, but as a martial arts performer aswell, showing excellent skill with a flexi-sword. This film contains one of Anthony Wong's more disturbing roles, as the evil transgender eunuch: Chan who is obsessed with finding a king for China. This is a very pleasing film for all fans of good Martial arts movies, however some of the gruesome and graphic violence is a little too much. Be prepared to close your eyes in disgust!
