YesAsia Editorial Description

Starring the original action heroine Angela Mao, plus Dorian Tan and perennial bad guy Chan Sing, the 1976 wuxia classic The Himalayan is another intense old-school actioner from the prolific trio of director Huang Feng (Lady Whirlwind, Hapkido), producer Raymond Chow, and stunt director Sammo Hung. The most powerful gang leader in the northern hinterlands, Tsang (Kwan Shan) sends his daughter Ching Lan (Angela Mao) and servant Hui (Dorian Tan) to attend the Tibetan martial arts tournament in hopes that she'll find a husband and successor for the family business. At the tournament, Ching Lan selects Ko Yat Hong (Ling Hon), who hails from a respected martial arts family, but he does not want to marry into the Tsang household. Yat Hong's half-brother Ko Chan (Chan Sing), however, is interested in the marriage proposal, or rather interested in Tsang's wealth and power. Determined to get his pesky brother out of the picture, Ko Chan orders his subordinates to kill Yat Hong, and sends a fake (also Ling Hon) to marry Ching Lan. Once in the lair, Yat Hong begins to unleash his plot to eliminate Tsang and Ching Lan.

The bad guy steals the show! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
For contemporary viewers, the primary reason to watch "The Himalayan" is the presence of the fierce fighting beauty Angela Mao. However, once you begin to watch, you find your attention is riveted by Chan Sing as Kao Chu, one of the baddest bad guys you'll ever see on screen. Through duplicity, some furious fists, and sheer force of will, Kao sweeps aside his rivals and becomes the local powerbroker. Angela Mao and Dorian Tan hide in a monastery until they can build up their martial arts skills to be able to take on the terrible Kao. When they leave the monastery and confront Kao, it is a battle of the titans! Some of the film's cinematography and editing are very crude and many of the film's early scenes are much too static. However, once Kao starts beating and intimidating anyone in his path, "The Himalayan" becomes irresistible. The film features a small, but memorable, role for Sammo Hung. And keep your eyes peeled for Jackie Chan, who appears as an extra. Angela Mao is good, as you would expect, but Chan Sing steals the show. Recommended for all fans of action films.
