本片以倒敘方式自一九九零拉開序幕，稻川老先生帶著一群自日本來到中國大陸，為二次大戰他所濫殺的無辜亡魂祭拜，內心充滿悔意無限。
一九三九年深受日本二、二、六事件影響的井上少佐與翻譯官稻川中尉駐紮在中國大陸某山區。抓到了一中國百姓田詩，誤以為是情報員，加以折磨刑罰，扭曲了人的本性，井上把自己本身，對這個大時代所被壓抑的不滿情緒全加諸於田詩身上，藉以滿足他大日本帝國主義的優越感。
田詩在這個戰亂下成為一位犧牲者。
劇末在稻川的懺悔中蒼涼落幕，而昄依佛門的井上少佐也與田詩的孫子見，留下一頁中日戰爭的滄桑史。
