Based on the best-selling autobiography by Tamura Hiroshi of popular manzai duo Kirin, the feature film Homeless Chugakusei (a.k.a. The Homeless Student) details the comedian's poignant experiences as a homeless teen during his junior high school days. Released in 2007, Tamura's book sold over a million copies in just two months, and was quickly picked up in 2008 for a Fuji TV drama special and a silver-screen adaptation directed by Furumaya Tomoyuki (Naoko). Winner of the Best Newcomer award at the 32nd Japan Academy Awards, baby-faced pop idol Koike Teppei (Kids) of WaT stars as the high school student who finds himself suddenly without a home after his parents go bankrupt and separate. With nowhere to turn, he begins to live in the park. Homeless Chugakusei co-stars Ikewaki Chizuru (10 Promises to My Dog) and comedian Nishino Akihiro of comedy duo King Kong as Tamura Hiroshi's siblings.

The Homeless Student' is an adaptation of a national best-seller autobiography novel 'The Homeless Junior High School Student.' After a term closing ceremony, Hiroshi (Gokusen the Movie's Teppei Koike) comes up home and finds the door barred by a property seizure notice. "I wish you all the best in yur future endeavors. You are dismissed!" Hiroshi's father says unexpectedly and disappears without a trace. Hiroshi suddenly becomes a homeless at his fourteen. He starts to spend his nights in public parks and eat cardboard to survive. Homeless lifestyle for Hiroshi is both with laughter and tears. Through this, he also learns important things about being a PERSON.
