Based on the best-selling autobiography by Tamura Hiroshi of popular manzai duo Kirin, the feature film Homeless Chugakusei (a.k.a. The Homeless Student) details the comedian's poignant experiences as a homeless teen during his junior high school days. Released in 2007, Tamura's book sold over a million copies in just two months, and was quickly picked up in 2008 for a Fuji TV drama special and a silver-screen adaptation directed by Furumaya Tomoyuki (Naoko). Winner of the Best Newcomer award at the 32nd Japan Academy Awards, baby-faced pop idol Koike Teppei (Kids) of WaT stars as the high school student who finds himself suddenly without a home after his parents go bankrupt and separate. With nowhere to turn, he begins to live in the park. Homeless Chugakusei co-stars Ikewaki Chizuru (10 Promises to My Dog) and comedian Nishino Akihiro of manzai duo King Kong as Tamura Hiroshi's siblings.
