「沃野千里，天府之土」這是諸葛亮對於四川的讚譽，「天府之國」的美稱也因此馳名於中外。其中，最受國際矚目的莫過於臥龍的「大熊貓自然保護區」。保護區內熊貓數量將近有一百五十隻左右，佔了全中國總數量的十分之一。
號稱「動物活化石」的大熊貓，最早的始祖出現在距今數百萬年以前，是一種肉食性動物，經過長期演化之後，轉變成以竹子為主食。由於人類的獵捕與棲地遭受破壞的威脅，如今全世界僅剩下大熊貓一千六百隻，零星散落於中國陝西南部、甘肅以及四川等地，其中超過八成分佈於四川。
本片深入四川內陸詳細報導熊貓的保育與成長過程，渾圓憨厚的熊貓人見人愛，飼養員為了照顧與餵飽熊貓付出了極大了心力與勞力。
