　　明朝末年，秦淮河畔名妓李貞娘的養女，名李香君，年青貌美，自幼跟隨名師，習棋詩畫，不少高人雅仕，公子王孫，偕慕名而至，但香君絕不假以詞色，唯獨與當時復社書生侯朝宗，一見鍾情，香君愛慕朝宗胸懷復興國家民族之心。但不久，明崇貞死後，國勢危急，朝宗為抗清，投奔史可法而去，暫別香君。

　　香加為逃避權奸迫害，隱居於山上庵堂，並千里送信與朝宗。香君終喜見愛郎，卻發覺朝宗剃髮束辮，降清變節，香君仿似晴天霹靂，萬念俱灰，痛把青絲割斷，遁入空門。
