YesAsia Editorial Description

He steals from the rich and gives to the poor! Like Robin Hood, the title hero of The Lizard is a philanthropic thief, except the Lizard makes his rounds in 1930s Shanghai. Corrupt police chief Chen Can (Law Lit) is assigned to bring down the Lizard to appease the sinister Japanese forces, but the Lizard constantly eludes his grasp. Little does Chen Can know that the wily thief actually works for him! The Lizard's true identity is the mousy Cheng Long (Ngok Wah), who dons a mask and takes to the streets to spread his righteous message. Screen legend Connie Chan Bo Chu is Xiao Ju, a charming young woman who's friends with Cheng Long, but is also obsessed with the Lizard. Cheng Long tries to keep a low profile throughout the proceedings, but when Chen Can tries to make Xiao Ju his own, Cheng Long - and the Lizard - must make his presence known! Directed with effortless flair by Chor Yuen, and featuring action from veteran choreographer Yuen Cheung Yan, The Lizard is a winning action adventure with enough action and romance to charm and entertain anyone!

While America's Batman is a super-hero, Hong Kong's The Lizard is a super-thief, whose kung-fu allows him to scale walls like some sort of deadly venom. His powers set the stage for a light-hearted action tale, featuring Shaw's first great international kung-fu star, Lo Lieh (King Boxer, a.k.a. Five Fingers of Death). It's also remembered as the final film of beloved teen idol Connie Chen Pao-chu, making this colorful adventure all the more special.

Chen Po Chu Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The Lizard is yet another gem from Shaw Brothers. The story is very entertaining, and keeps you interested throughout the film.Connie Chen Po Chu is amazing in this film. She gets the chance to show off just how talented an actress she is.Her acting capability is equal to many of the other fine players here, but it is her fighting techniques that will really catch your eye.As usual, the Shaw sets and costumes are beautiful. It is a shame that this was Connie's only appearance in a Shaw martial arts film, but she really does deliver.

Fast-paced caper classic Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"The Lizard" is a lightweight, but very well-constructed, tale of a beloved Robin Hood-style character. Connie Chen is a revelation here as a high-kicking cutie and Lo Lieh plays another of his patented supremely evil roles to perfection. The story zips along and entertains throughout. The filmmakers end the film with a scene of great carnage, which seems an odd choice for this essentially comic movie. Highly recommended.

Chan Bo Chu's last movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I heard this was her last movie before she retired. I read up on this movie and there is lots of good things said. She is equivalent to the Michelle Yeoh of Kung Fu and that her fighting style is unique but excellent. She does all her own fight scenes and very good at it. She is still as pretty as ever. This movie is in Mandarin so I do not think she is speaking here. The story is about Yueh Wah who is The Lizard, like Robin Hood - rob from the rich , give to the poor. Chan is Yueh's childhood friend and they like each other. Together they must challenge Lo Lieh who is the inspector after Yueh.

A movie not to be missed for all Chen Po Chu's fans as this is the only one Shaw classic by her. Of course not forgetting the co-stars Lo Lieh and Yueh Hua who had also made this an interesting kung fu movie.
