If you can only afford 1 album....

...then this is the one to get.... NOW!!!! I have always liked Wang Jie's songs, especially the melancholic ones. But most of my hard earned money are usually spent on heavy metal music. So I keep putting my favorite mandarin/cantonese artistes music on hold. That is, till the day I saw this. The black album cover, sad look, suits his image fine. And I think his not too happy love life has contibuted much to his style of music, no doubt. He is like the chinese version of the Godfather of Cantonese pop Sam Hui (track 8 on CD1 is a Sam Hui tune btw), difference is Sam Hui has got tonnes of cheerful and cheeky songs as well... Dave Wang is almost purely sorrow, loneliness, heart ache, pain.... which is not such a bad thing for us, the fans. But I think he's allowing too much of this sadness to rule his life... Ok, back to this compilation. Your staple classics are there. While typing this, I've been listening to CD1 for the past... 4 hours or so... and I'm still listening. In Singapore, this 2+1 CD set is selling for the price of only ONE disc. When I saw it, I thought, WOW, what a deal! Looked at the track listings and.... DAMN!!! All the great classic tunes are there, and more! If you want a Dave Wang compilation, then this is the definitive one. The one to get! There is also a bonus VCD with a few music videos. But, please, heed my advise. Don't watch them. Its very old school and rather low budget type. I prefer to have this image of a lonely, heart-broken Dave standing alone in the middle of a windy, dark, drizzling night, missing his lost love.... watching the cheesy mtv kinda smashed that mysterious aura of Dave Wang in my mind. So please, just play the music, fall asleep to it or whatever.... enjoy.... |
