YesAsia Editorial Description
Comedy superstar Stephen Chow is at the top of his game in the hilarious conman comedy The Magnificent Scoundrels! Chow is Sing, an avowed conman who's forced by vicious loan shark Roy Cheung to team up with silly female grifter Teresa Mo to rip off a luxurious vacant house. But the pair get caught inside by the house's owners (Ng Ma and Tien Niu). Luckily, they're expecting a rich Mainland visitor named Jackie, so Sing is happy to assume that role to take them for all they're worth! But the couple are also conmen, also working for the same loan shark, and neither has any idea what they're getting into! When they introduce the buxom Amy Yip as their daughter, this stacked deck of comic circumstances seems ready to collapse! Who will con who first?
Directed by Lee Lik-Chee (Love on Delivery), The Magnificent Scoundrels is vintage Stephen Chow, meaning plenty of high-speed mayhem and plentiful comic misunderstandings, all anchored by Chow's unbeatable comic charisma. Also starring Karl Maka (Aces Go Places), Yuen Wah (Supercop), and Sandra Ng (Golden Chicken), The Magnificent Scoundrels is an unexpected all-star comedy that's sure to entertain!

Comic hijinks abound in this little gem
| "The Magnificent Scoundrels" grabs the viewer with an absurdly funny opening scene of Stephen Chow swimming ashore in Hong Kong dressed like a Red Guard in order to trick tourists into buying junk pottery, then never lets go and never slows down. Director Lee Lik-Chee peppers the viewer with a non-stop stream of jokes and sight gags, as destitute con artists Stephen Chow and the comically hapless Teresa Mo seek to cheat money out of equally destitute con artists Ng Ma, Tanny Tien, and Amy Yip, who, of course, are trying to cheat Chow and Mo, as both sides labor under the misimpression that the other is loaded. Both sides desperately need quick cash to pay their debts to nasty crime boss Roy Cheung, but when they realize that none of them have any money, they set their sights on seeking to con the crime boss. Stephen Chow shines in his role; this is the kind of character he was born to play! Teresa Mo is hilarious as the clueless amateur grifter and Amy Yip, for once, is given an opportunity to breathe life into a character rather than just serve as a kind of shapely prop. "The Magnificent Scoundrels" is great silly fun and I recommend it highly. |

Funny movie
| This being a Stephen Chow movie sure gets plenty of laugh. Whats more, you got Karl Maka and you can pretty sure that the jokes are funny. The story is about a bunch of conmen trying to outwit each other. Watch out for the most gross kissing scene ever done between Stephen and Amy Yip. Makes me wants to puke in laughter. |
