The Man Called Tiger (Hong Kong Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

The Man Called Tiger (1973) was originally set to star Bruce Lee, who had previously collaborated with its director, Lo Wei, on The Big Boss and Fist of Fury. When Lee left to direct himself in Way of the Dragon, Lo replaced him with Jimmy Wang Yu (One-Armed Swordsman), who had recently come to Golden Harvest from Shaw Brothers. A gritty tale of a Hong Kong street punk who arrives in Kyoto to infiltrate the yakuza and avenge his father's murder, the movie's themes of honor, vengeance, and Japanese bad guys make it a companion in spirit to Lee's films, even if Jimmy doesn't quite measure up to Bruce's legendary screen presence.

Ostensibly on the run from the triads, Lee Kwan (Wang Yu) has come to Japan to solve the mystery of his father's death. Lee suspects the Kyoto yakuza are to blame, and a chance encounter with a Shimizu gang lieutenant provides him with a golden opportunity to investigate the organization from the inside. With the aid of a sexy yakuza moll and a mole in a rival syndicate, Lee discovers that his father was the victim of an elaborate underworld plot to seize his family's fortune. Armed with little more than his own two fists, Lee sets out to tear the Kyoto gangs apart.
