An uncommon art film from director Evans Chan (Crossings), The Map of Sex and Love details the meeting and subsequent influence that a group of three disparate individuals have on one another. Wei Ming journeys to Hong Kong to film a documentary on the forthcoming Hong Kong Disneyland, and meets Larry, a dancer, and Mimi, a drifter. The three relate their various dreams and experiences, touching upon sexuality, identity, and ultimately belonging. Bizarre, unlikely events and details (a cache of Nazi Gold allegedly exists in Macau, a rubber band that supposedly cures a person's homosexuality), and the crossing narratives of the three characters paints a complex, lyrical portrait of the search for individuality as it exists along the map of the world. Identity - and its titular components of sex and love - is tied into the great wide map of the world, and each character has their own journey through which to discover it. Writer-director Evans Chans boldly uses amateur actors to deliver his words, and digital video to capture his unique vision of the world as it exists on The Map of Sex and Love.

A filmmaker (Wei Ming), a dancer (Larry) and a drifting girl (Mimi) meet on Hong Kong's Lamma Island. Their individual paths take them into each other's lives, dreams and secrets. These include a traumatic experience in Belgrade, a rubber band supposed to cure one's homosexual urges and mysterious Nazi gold allegedly laundered through post-war Macau. At the end of their journey they seem to realize that the map of the human heart is circumscribed by the map of the world, and each person must find his way through the map of sex and love.
