Very Good Movie
|
Very good movie. Normally, i'm very cynical and critical of Hong Kong Cinema in recent years(incoherent and convoluted storyline, lack of character development, terrible over-acting, braindead characters). But this movie is very good, along the lines of Hero and House of Flying Daggers good. It's great to see Jackie Chan return to hong kong cinema where he belongs- the big wigs at Hollywood will never understand his style and american audiences are too stupid or ignorant to care. After the pile of crap that is The Twins Effect 2, i'm glad he chose this project....it really shows his talents for choreography and directing. The sets are amazing, costumes are vibrant, and the characters aren't carboard cutouts or talking fortune cookies like in other movies, i actually felt for the characters...which is a good thing. And it was a great idea to explore the mythology and mysteries of Emperor Qin while integrating a cheesy, but poignant love story at the same time. His mauseleum has never been found but it's interesting to see their portrayal of what it might look like, however fantastical it might seem. The only bad thing would have to be the storyline. As far as action movies go, i didn't expect much, but still, there were still many questions left unanswered and it seemed like they didn't care much for them and would much rather show jackie chan kicking ass, which is completely fine with me. But it was the only thing holding the movie back, and it could've been so much better if they sorted out the storyline and give it some substance and depth. Still...great movie. The women are beautiful, the action is fast-paced and furious(as expected from Jackie Chan), the sets and costumes amazing. Take it from someone who's seen way too many movies(good, mostly bad) this year, this one is definitely worth your money. |

Love the SONG!!!
| The best thing out of this whole movie was the song! I was very surprised at how good this movie was although the last 10-15 minutes was a bit outragous. Everything else was pretty captivating and the scenery was great! |

Something fresh from Jackie!
| This is very different from the usual Jackie movies. Very dramatic and very touching. Yeah, the plot's not very realistic, but the title of the movie explains all. I think this is one of Jackie's best movies. Also the themesong by Jackie and the female lead is awesome! |

Something Different
| This movie was surprisingly good. I liked it! Not the usual Jackie Chan comedy, so it was refreshing. The choreography was very elegant. Definitely worth watching.... |

i want to like it but i can't
| The Myth, lots of money thrown in, but i wouldn't judge a book by its cover. the storyline just doesn't work. Jackie has these dreams about falling in love in his past life, and being a softy at heart you hope something nice would come out of it, but at the end of this film, you find that the character development is poor, especially leung kar fai (far too underused, and the wrong character for him), and you just have this sense of emptiness, as there isn't much point for any part of the movie, neither the love and friendship relationships. there are the usual jackie chan action pieces, but rememeber, he's getting old and although i still admire his physical abilities, but with this peculiar reasonless twist of a storyline, you are better watching him monkey about in his older movies. |

Kim Hee Seon
| Kim Hee Seon, Kim Hee Seon, Kim Hee Seon! Just Kim Hee Seon. I have nothing to say about the movie; it is only Kim Hee Seon I am obsessed with. She looks so pretty, admirable and innocent --- what a brilliant act of expressing emotions of love, happiness and sorrow. She looks astoundingly pretty when she smiles with happiness and freedom. Just because of her I want to buy the movie. It is a must-have movie if you are her fan. |

Reply to "It Could Be Better"
| In reply to Alan's "It Could Be Better," there must be two things that have to be understood: 1) not all of Jackie Chan's movies are to be watched simply for their fight scenes. One has to look deeper than the action, for it was only to accompany the intricate plotline, unlike other Chan movies, where the fights were the core of excitement. 2) the romance: it could have ended no other way. Imagine if a several-thousand year old princess was carried off into a new and modern world. Not only would it have been awkward, but it would not have been able to close the adventure as soundly. It proved, furthermore, that her love would only be for the sole general, dead or not. Yes, it may have been bitter and a bit unsatisfying, but that's how some stories must end. |

Could Be Better
| I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan. I own all of his best movies. Personally I like Jackie acting tough and serious over his comedic performances. The comedy helps but Jackie should reinvent himself. He should realize that he is not getting any younger and it is clear that he is losing his boyish charm. He was good as the mighty General Meng Yi. I actually liked him playing the general than his modern day character. It felt refreshingly good to see him take up a serious chivalric character. He should do more movies like that. Honestly, I am not a big fan of all the abundance use of SFX in the movie. The kicking horse seemed a bit too weird. Other than that, great performance on everything else. Kim Hee Son and Malika Sherawat are beautiful women. |

it can be better
it can be better

i believe 2 things can make the movie better: 1. a longer fight scene at the end (i believe everyone will expect that in jackie's movie) 2. a better ending with jackie and kim's love scene, now is not ENOUGH at all and i hope a better scripts on it will help the whole movie. otherwise, its a good movie (another suggestion is should use more or better CG on the war scene) |
