The 2008 Beijing Olympics came to an end on August 24th, but you can relive the spectacle of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies on DVD. The 2008 Beijing Olympics kicked off on August 8th at 8:08 pm at the Beijing National Stadium with an extravagant Opening Ceremony directed by renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou (Hero). The beating of drums and dazzling bursts of fireworks set the stage for an amazing display of traditional Chinese culture and arts as hundreds of performers in elaborate costumes danced, drummed, and performed martial arts for what many have called the most impressive Olympics Opening Ceremony ever.
The Beijing Olympics closed with similar grandeur on August 24th in a flurry of fireworks, pyrotechnics, and song and dance performances. The night's lineup included mass dance and aerial performances around the memory tower; an eight-minute presentation of the 2012 London Olympics; and performances by Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Rain, Leehom Wang, Kelly Chen, Joey Yung, Nicholas Tse, and Stefanie Sun, as well as British stars Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page and operatic tenor Placido Domingo.
