The second feature from Summer's Tail and Blue Cha Cha director Cheng Wen Tang, the 2004 film The Passage spins a modern love story from a centuries-old piece of Chinese calligraphy. Commissioned by Taiwan's National Palace Museum to commemorate their 80th anniversary, the film stars popular actress Guey Lun Mei (Secret) as a perky museum assistant whose confused relationships with her writer friend and a Japanese visitor all lead back to Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo's famous handscroll "The Cold Food Observance". Co-starring Leon Dai (The Hospital) and Kageyama Yukihiko (The Wall), The Passage builds a brooding bridge between the literary past and the romantic present for a very unique film on art, love, and memory.
