Ling Bor is yet another legendary actress under the Shaw Brothers. Born in 1939, she joined the Shaw Brothers Studio in 1962, and quickly rose to fame in 1963 with The Love Eterne, winning the Special Award For Outstanding Performance at the Golden Horse Film Awards. In The Perfumed Arrow she plays Wen Fei E who is both an excellent academic as well as martial arts expert. Since her childhood days fond of dressing up as a boy, she becomes a village scholar sharing classes with Tu Zi Zheng (Chin Feng) and Wei Zhun Zhi (Ho Fan). When Fei E's innocent father is framed and sent to prison, she rushes to his rescue saving Jing Fu Quan (Kam Fie) who is in the hands of robbers along the way. Mistaking Fei E to be a noble hero, Fu Quan has no greater wish than to get married to her savior...

Perfectly cast as a woman impersonating a man, Ivy Ling Po - who has made a career in Huangmei Opera playing male roles - plays the tomboy daughter of a general. Like Yentl, Pei-ngo (Ivy Ling Po) maintains a male facade for the rights she doesn't have as a girl. However, her mother wants her to marriage. Not only must she consider revealing her long hidden gender secret, but she must choose between two schoolmates for a groom. It's another Huangmei Opera triumph that charms and delights.
