I loved "Phantom Lover" Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"The Phantom Lover" is much deeper, much richer, much better than the movie musical version of its inspiration, "The Phantom of the Opera". This is a powerhouse of a romantic drama! The film is beautifully shot and boasts a terrific cast. Wu Chien Lien, in particular, was a revelation to me in this film; she delivers a heartbreakingly moving performance.

This print of the film has not been remastered, but it presents quite a clean image. Unfortunately, for those whose Chinese skills are inadequate, the movie's English subtitles are tiny. This is the only reason I have downgraded this terrific film.

I recommend "The Phantom Lover" very highly for a general audience.

You can't help but think of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. However, it's our beloved Leslie who wrote the music for all the songs in this movie. Was he ever given credit for it.?? They're so moving and covers a good musical range of high/low notes that not everyone can do that. Leslie sang these songs beautifully and I couldn't get it out of my head!! I think Leslie should be awarded posthumously for his talents in writing and singing these songs!!!!!!

A bittersweet romantic story but with a triumphant ending. I wish Leslie had appeared in a little bit more scenes before he was 'banished' to hide behind his robes. I highly recommend this movie. However, being a classic and having won a few awards, I think it should be digitally remastered because I could hardly read the credits and the movie appears to be a little fuzzy . Still a collector's item for true Leslie's fans.

``Bittersweet`` is the most perfect adjective to qualify this movie. It´s not a happy love story, but somewhat a tragedy. Even so, we can feel the immense love of the couple and it really touches our hearts.

Love this film but subtitle is too small Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Romantic film. Especially I love songs in this film, which are very beautiful. The only problem for me was English subtitle is too small to read, it's very hard to understand for those who don't understand Chinese.

This movie is so touching, so romantic. I highly recommend it. Leslie is the best actor. Leslie, you are always my sweetheart.
