In this 2004 television adaptation of the 1940's film classic, the ups and downs of one Shanghai family before, during and after the Japanese occupation of China are chronicled in intimate and sometimes devastating details. With astonishing performances by such acclaimed actors as Anita Yuen (C'est La Vie, Mon Cheri), Carina Lau (2046) and the great Chan Dao Ming (Hero, Infernal Affairs III), The River Flows Eastwards is an emotional tale about a dark chapter in modern Chinese history, and an uplifting ode to the perseverance of the human spirit.
