Award-winning actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai shows his playful comic side in Royal Scoundrel, a winning action-comedy co-starring the divine Jacklyn Wu Chien Lien. Tony Leung is "Beach Boy", a maverick cop whose unorthodox and incompetent ways are frowned upon by his uptight superiors. His inept partner Mrs. Chow (Ng Man Tat, not playing a female) isn't much help, and is more concerned with taking care of his many, many children. On a routine stakeout, Beach Boy and Mrs. Chow rescue a lovely Mainland girl named Ah Yuk (Jacklyn Wu), who was previously abused by her criminal uncle. Ah Yuk has nowhere to go, so she moves in with Beach Boy, who has no idea how to deal with a beautiful, helpful female presence in his dingy bachelor pad. But if he's not careful, the dashing new police lieutenant (Waise Lee) will end up stealing her heart! Can the Beach Boy get it together? Also known by the title Son of the Beach, Royal Scoundrel is an early collaboration between Tony Leung Chiu Wai and director Johnnie To that demonstrates that both award-winning artists know how to have fun once in a while!

性格火爆的沙灘仔，跟膽小怕死的周師奶任職警界多年，是一對好拍檔。

在調查一件偽鈔集團的案子中，沙難仔邂逅了少女阿玉。原來阿玉之後父乃偽鈔集團之同黨，在拘捕過程中被總督察李南擊斃。由於阿玉已無親人在港，沙對她由憐生愛，並收留她暫住家中。但其後卻被新任上司李南奪愛。

李南表面乃正人君子，實則與臺灣偽鈔集團勾結，並欲嫁禍於沙灘仔。最後，沙灘仔在阿玉的幫助下，終於揭露了李南的真面目。

Beach Boy (Tong Leung) and Mrs. Chow (Ng Mang Tat) have been partners in police force for years. While investigating a case involving fake money, Beach Boy met Ah Yuk (Wu Chien Lien) whose step-father was one of the members and was arrested by him. Ah Yuk was alone in Hong Kong and Beach boy fell in love with her.

Beach Boy's superior, Inspector Lee Nam (Lee Chi Hung) who appears to be honest is actually one of the Taiwanese group. He set up Beach Boy and Mrs Chow. He also courted Ah Huk. Ah Yuk intentionally moved in with him in order to help Beach Boy to expose the true Lee Nam, followed by a dramatic Chase.
