The heroes are savage because the villains are brutal, cruel, and vicious. At first, a gang just wants the village locksmith to open a stolen safe, but it soon escalates into wholesale torment. Though reminiscent of The Seven Samurai, the director and his revered action choreographers, Liu Chia-liang and Tang Chia, design each of the many struggles with gritty depravity and desperate power. The result is an especially realistic, even grueling, exercise in suspense.

Village People

Sometimes you just want to kill the villagers yourself but after some reflection & repeat viewing of the movie, I appreciated the portrayal of the different character types. Each characters' action &/or reaction portrays a deeper meaning & even the village people, as a general mass of indecisivness &/or ignorance served their purpose in stirring up emotions. Perhaps emotions can be easily roused because the simple plot of bandits overtaking a simple home-life symbolizes any aggression taking place today. The choices the characters had to struggle with are still choices/decisions that has to made anywhere, by anyone at any given time (domestic, international, community, individual). ((write a paper on it)) Oh yeah, there were some old school fighting, nicely executed by your favorites that made it an fair action drama. There were some moments a little drawn out simply to make things more dramatic but all the characters recieved the ending their actors are used to. |
