Blu-ray quality
| Honestly, the blu-ray version of this film is really badly mastered. Grain-reduction was applied too heavily and all details were lost. The HD version just looked like a slightly better quality version of the DVD. Like an extrapolated upscaled version of the DVD. It is a pity as it was one of the technically more advanced movie of its time when it came out. |

LPCM Track is out of sync
LPCM Track is out of sync
| This is a nice Blu-Ray with nice picture quality and the DTS HD sound track is good. But the LPCM track is out of sync with the video, it is in fact a few minutes slower. |

Just a little extra info.
| I'd just like to add that the 10th Anniversary Edition is anamorphic, even the trailers from the first disc. Haven't watched the second one yet. |

Ekin Cheng forever
|
I'm so glad they finally re-released Storm Riders on DVD. I remember over 10 years ago when it first came out. Everyone in my theater rioted because it was such a freaking fantastic movie. Afterwards, four of my friends changed their name to "Cloud" - though one claimed it was because of Final Fantasy VII. He was a liar, though. Having rewatched the film, it amazes me how much it holds up. Centro's special effects are pretty good even by today's standards, and are easily better than that Dragonball Evolution movie. Sonny Chiba's overacting is still amazing even now, and Ekin Cheng's hair knows no equal. Shu Qi is actually pretty good. But what happened to Kristy Yeung, anyway? I saw her recently in Ming Ming and it was like a flashback or something. I look forward to the sequel because it has Aaron and Ekin. I would have liked for Shu Qi to come back, but since the sequel has Lam Suet, all is forgiven. |

"The Storm Riders" still works
|
It is surprising that "The Storm Riders", a film which created a sensation when it was released, now is available only on VCD. For the record, my review of this film is based on a DVD that I purchased from YesAsia a few years ago; I cannot attest to the quality of the VCD. "The Storm Riders" created a sensation for its imaginative and extensive use of computer graphics in its special effects. Its special effects popped off the screen in a way that had never been seen before in a martial arts film. Aaron Kwok gives a galvanizing performance in this film. He and the actor who plays Xiong Ba are the real stars, chewing up the scenery and leaving everyone else in the dust. Ekin Cheng seems a bit lost in his role. Kristy Yang looks lovely in her memorable performance as the film's love interest. The story, about Xiong Ba's quest to dominate the martial arts world, is familiar stuff; we've been seeing different versions of it over and over since the Shaw Bros. classics. This is an effective version of that tale, although it might have been more effective if it had been told as more of a tragedy. In other words, it might have made a greater impression if Xiong Ba had been more of a sympathetic character at the outset and became more evil as his pursuit of his goal became ever more single-minded. The film holds up well -- it's special effects still look pretty darn special and it still is an exciting tale to tell. I can recommend it for all fans of Jin Yong-style martial arts films. |

Almost the Best
| The movie was cool in the actions and special effects, but some of the kung fu moves seemed exaggerated. I love seeing Aaron, Kristy, and Ekin in the movie though. I would suggest you to watch this movie if your fans of Aaron or Ekin. Its so.... cool!!! |

it's good
| i think it's a movie with good story, but i think there are too much of "effects" if i saw this movie i thought, there are only people who made some movements and the rest was made by computer. so i think it's not so good. |
