An overlooked crime thriller from the director of Battle Royale, The Triple Cross is littered with homage to crime classics, from the outlaw lovers of Godard's A Bout de Souffle to the male lead sporting a nose plaster in recognition of Jack Nicholson's Chinatown. It also anticipates many of the themes and attitudes of post-Tarantino crime cinema with remarkable prescience.
