If All About Eve centered on the fierce competition between two young announcers both on and off the screen, SBS's The Typhoon in that Summer focuses on a battle between Soo Min (Jung Da Bin of Rooftop Room Cat) and Eun Bi (Han Ye Seul of Forbidden Love), competing in the acting world. They might be half sisters, but one had a silver spoon childhood, and the other had to fight to reach her position. When James Han (Lee Jae Hwang of Please Come Back, Soon-Ae), a Korean American working in the entertainment industry, becomes interested in Soo Min, their competition reaches new heights. It starts resembling two other rivals from that summer in the 70s, when two women created a typhoon of rivalry fighting for Soo Min and Eun Bi's father.

Nothing beats working with people you know and trust, and in The Typhoon in that Summer's case, that's exactly what happened. Producer Lee Kwan Hee worked with writer Choi Sung Shil for over a decade, from early 90s dramas like The Stormy Season to the 1998 drama Six Siblings. The two continued their partnership even after leaving MBC and reunited after 6 long years. PD Lee's last two dramas, 2004's The Prince's First Love and 2003's Thousand Year Love, were big hits, particularly overseas, thanks to the combination of star power and overseas locations (the former) and an interesting mix of past and present (the latter). After building her fame at MBC with dramas like Rooftop Room Cat and Trio, Jung Da Bin stars in her second SBS drama in a row (following 2004's My 19 Old Sister in Law). Her rival is played by former supermodel Han Ye Seul, who rose to stardom in Forbidden Love.
