《秋水伊人》的特殊性與重要性包括以下五點：

1德米拍出了金髮女星凱薩琳丹妮芙的氣質與美豔，讓她成為世人認同與記憶的法國女性典範。十四歲就從影的凱薩琳早期只是浮光掠影地在幕前點綴，二十歲才在男友羅傑華汀支持下有了主角戲份，德米的《秋水伊人》讓她豔光四射，坐穩紅星之姿，隨後的《柳媚花嬌》更展示了她能歌能舞的表演才藝。

2德米提供了最大篇幅讓作曲家米榭．李葛蘭（Michel Legrand）全力發揮，讓這齣新形式的歌劇電影一新世人耳目，主題歌曲「I Will Wait for You」更就此傳揚世界。
