The best...BUT WHAT NOW?
|
I was very impressed with the art, the special effects (such as the water/ice/blood in the water effects). It was very nostalgic to see old characters such as Unicorn Jabu and Hydra Ichi showing up, even attacking Seiya. Jabu shows off a couple of nice kicks, however, Ichi isn't too impressive. Seiya can't light his cosmos and is defeated. As for other battles, the best one is by far the Shun and Ikki team fight against an Artemis Knight. Shun defends Ikki for once! Evntually they use awesome teamwork ending in Shun using himself as a decoy with Nebula Chain, immidiately followed with Nebula Storm(with very nice effects), allowing Ikki to blast the enemy into nothing with his pheonix flames's backdraft. Anway,Hyoga and Shiryu don't crop up for very long and are practically defeated by the time Seiya reaches them. As for the ending... there are many interpretations to this ambigious conclusion. Seiya lights his cosmo to the infinite. The when Seiya (naked) flies towards Apollo, determined to land just one blow, Apollo commands him "disappear human" and raises his hand. Then there are a series of fade-out scenes which suggested eventually suggest that all the knights are returned to their normal lives, with no memory of their fights. It is very tragic since all the Gold Knight's sacrifices have been in vain and the friendship between the bronze knights, or Saori's love will never be. After the credits, when you see the end of Seiya VS Apollo, Seiya wears a new pegasus cloth and charges at Apollo with lightning speed and manages to inflict a hairline cut under the god's eye suprising him immensely and angering him, soon after the cloth leaves Seiya and he falls into darkness, perhaps because Apollo had banished him. Therefore, this movie may actually conclude the WHOLE of Saint Seiya with a sad ending. I haven't seen anyone else see it this way, but I fear I'm right. I hope Seiya continues though!!! Long live St.Seiya! |

Another great Saint Seiya achievement
| I have been waiting for another saint seiya movie for a long time and is nice to see that it was worth the wait. It's true that the battles and the music are a bit unimpresive but the movie it's still awesome. The characters are beautifully drawn and the aromors of the bad guys are great. Hope the rest of the Hades chapter is good too. If you are a Saint Seiya fan, don't miss this great movie. |

Teaser from toei..
|
The artwork is the best in the series; although most seiya's fans will be disappointed due to the lack of battles in the OVA, This is explained by the fact that Seiya has been injured severely during his battle with Hades and only at the end , he is cured by Athena.. The ending points to a new series set in Heaven where the bronze knights are set to battle the knights of various gods, beginning with Apollo.. Let's hope that Toei will let Kurumada give us another good run with the Saint Seiya series which brings out the best in friendship, trust and belief in one's ideals.. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT INSTALMENT OF SAINT SEIYA!!! |

At last, a good seiya movie
|
Excellent movie. Fights, armors and special attacks are nor important. The important thing in this movie are the feelings, the thoughts and the intentions of the characters. Gods are trying to understand why Athena protects mankind, and why Seiya, a simple human, was able to defetead other gods like Poseidon and Hades. Two things: the armor of Seiya at the end of the movie is not the God Armor. The God Armor is shown in a flashback at the beginnning of the movie, just before seiya wakes up; Abel (the bad guy from the 3rd movie) is not Apollo, and he´s not the god of the sun. As the 3rd movie tells, Abel is Zeus´s son who was forgotten of the History because he tried to take the place of Zeus. |

Further Soiling the Name of a Once-Good Series
|
As if the lackluster and garishly computer-dominated Hades OVA wasn't bad enough, Kuramada added insult to injury with the incomprehensible Tenkaihen. From start to finish it manages to weave no coherent story at all, and the entire thing is composed of a series of 'artsy' shots focusing on uninteresting things like people's feet and drops of water. This is an example of perhaps a forty-minute movie at most, stretched out to ninety painful minutes of nothing. Much of the filler consists of Seiya staggering around and mumbling to himself, and while this is not of itself anything new, this time around we don't get his interesting comrades to fill in the gaps with fights of their own. The foes are much too powerful for this to be entertaining in the slightest, as there is absolutely no question who is stronger and it comes off as if it was composed solely to annoy the audience, who expect at least some payoff of enduring all this. Athena wanders aimlessly around and changes her personality at the drop of a hat, seeming never to fully find her motivation...which also changes from moment to moment. The meager appearances of the other saints is relegated to merely momentary snatches, and while as fans we might become excited that their arrival heralds a truly impressive battle or reinforces the bonds of friendship between them and Seiya...not so. Even the saints who aren't Seiya's immediate friends, but whom we've seen before, are poorly-characterized in this, and fans of Unicorn Jabu and the like will be sharply disappointed that he for example was so poorly represented here, totally at odds with his personality. It's only a letdown, one after the other. We also aren't given any reason behind the proceedings of the film, nor any precedence for it; Artemis simply appears and claims this and that, and Athena is foolish enough to go along with it, which is directly at odds with her developed persona by the end of the actual series, manga or TV anime. Apollon, who was very clearly defeated in the third movie, makes another incomprehensible appearance as well, and it seems he does this solely to convolute the plot more before the end, so that the audience has no possible hopes of understanding what they've just seen. The magnificent cloths are all but forgotten, with Seiya's faring the worst. We also are 'treated' to totally gratuitous nudity before the end, which merely comes off as garish and pretentious when it happens. Apollon and Artemis both are little more than one-trick horses, managing to come off as even more flat than some of the other movie-only characters created for the original string of movies accompanying the TV series. But at least the original four movies had things like pacing, a plot, and likable characters. Possibly the greatest weakness about Tenkaihen is that it relies too heavily on Seiya to carry the plot. Like many heroes of boys series, he lacks much personality and instead is better when his friends are around to make him seem more likable and interesting. A huge mistake is made by making him the center of the storyline, which suffers for that choice. And the audience suffers too, because by the end we're wishing desperately for something even remotely resembling the old series we came to love all those years ago. It isn't given to us, and overall Tenkaihen is little more than an amateurish work best forgotten. Stick with the TV series or the manga, and if you want to watch a Saint Seiya movie choose one of the original four. Any one will be far superior to this one. Kurumada...if he actually had anything to do with this film...should be ashamed, and it's obvious that if he did compose the story of this film that it's long past time for him to retire. |
