Even better than her last!
| Our Song is entirely in English and it, well... sucks. But I'll ignore that weak point and give this album a ten. I love infection, Ryuuseigun, Arrow of Pain, Ibara no Umi, and Rollin'. A must-have for everyone! |

Here it is, the best of the best. The cream of the Chihiro crop, if you will. This Armor. God I love typing that name. This Armor. Oooh, yeah. Which is my way of saying: I freaking love this album. Just be glad I didn't type that in all caps. Forget the depression (...for some part) of Insomnia, and say hello to a sort of rainier/sunnier, more upbeat sound, folks - think Michelle-Branch lite (at least on ROLLIN') meets Dido meets Sarah McLachlan. Adult contemporary meets pop, if you will. Or not. But i digress - folks, though, if you're looking for the best example of Chihiro's sound evolution, just look at the opening track, ROLLIN' - soaked in sunny acoustics, a rather cheerful drumbeat (calm, sort of like a day at the beach) and a bit of piano lurking under - there you go! Beautiful, like sunshine suddenly sparkling through the windows of your living room. Okay, more imagery since it helps me - think walking around in a beach house and looking out at the ocean on a clear, calm, sunny day. There you go. ryuuseigun (a stream of meteors) takes on a different tone - clamer, slower, sparkling-twilight piano and a bit of bass and cello lurk into another gorgeous piece here - although I would've lvoed to see the single's b-side (Fly to me) make it onto This Armor, ryuuseigun alone does the job. Cozy - maybe you'll be compelled to do a little stargazing? Sometimes some things jsut don't work as well as others - such as the album version of LITTLE BEAT RIFLE - I lvoe it, it's beautiful with (again) a slow, beautiful piano line, but... I'm more used to the upbeat, synth-and-acoustics single version - though that's certainly no fault of the album version, which is strong in its own right. ibara no umi (sea of thorns) marks one of my two (three? ROLLIN' again...) favorites of the album, with its stormy/misty-morning, rolling-on-the-ocean feel - a bit Oriental in the flute and the subtle synths and drums, unnerving and enrapturing in the piano line... mmmmm, gimme some of that. everything, in my hands would probably make up the most upbeat song of the album, competing with ROLLIN' - the fast-paced drums are gonna have you up and shaking your booty while the piano rings gently overhead and the strings rise and fall dramatically for the chorus - and licks of acoustics here and there... but don't let the quietly-energetic feel fool you: Underneath lurk some startlingly morbid, ominous lyrics that'll have you blinking in surprise. And now... we get to infection. This one's... very hard to describe, simply because it's so stunning, breathtaking, perfect, heartrending... you get the point. Easily the most depressing song on the album (and a coutnerpart to ryuuseigun), talking of one-sided love that hurts like hell, another rainy/misty feeling is created (think early-morning big city during a storm or a light drizzle - steel-skied) as the piano and strings and harp and guitar and the whole deal swell and swell and swell as time goes on, preparing you for it... but when it comes you're still surprised at how emotional Chihiro sounds, pouring her heart and soul into her voice... Just... wow. Wow, as a whole for the album - I may be a bit biased, but... when something's this good, and when you have an artist as great as Chihiro... bias is hard not to feel. She works her butt off with these songs, and it shows. What we have here's a simply perfect blending of pop, adult contemporary, and even a bit of classic - maybe lite rock? No clue. But rest assured, whatever it is, you're gonna love it. Or else. |

What can I say?
| Definitely another one of her great albums. This album has varying songs, ranging from slow, to upbeat tunes. The first song, Rollin', is, well, rollin'. There's even an English song in this album! She could work on the pronounciation a tad bit, but otherwise, it's great. It's great to find such artists around, and a rather hard one to come by, too. Pick the album up, you won't regret it. |

This album...
|
...is one of the greatest vocal album I've ran across. Chihiro have a very powerful vocal that brings the song alive and hse sings with deep emotion and the listener could feel the song. My two top faveorite traxs on the album are "Infection" and "The Thorny Sea"... the music really is beautiful and the lyrics for "Infection" is absolutely deep--I also loved that PV very much ^_^ I highly recommend any fan of Chihiro to get this album and if you are not a fan, you will be ^_^ |

A wonderful album....
| I came across one of her videos by accident, and I was at first put off by her vocal style and live mannerisms. Then out of curiousity, I checked out some of her other songs and was struck by their intensity and emotion. She just blew me away! I'm now a proud owner of this cd, and I recommend that you give her a try. She may not be for everyone, but I'm sure many of you will appreciate her talents. If you like Utada Hikaru, Dido, or Mika Nakashima, there's a strong chance you'll really like Onitsuka Chihiro. |
